Talk: The PANDA Strip ASIC (PASTA)

Subtitle: Current status of the development
for the MVD silicon strip front-end
Slides: 15
Duration: ~20 minutes

Date: 02 April 2015
Occasion: IKP-1 group meeting seminar
Location: IKP meeting room, FZ Jülich
Audience: People from IKP-1, mainly physicists working on PANDA but also other hadron physics experiments

Huh, that was close, I almost missed my turn at the weekly seminar. Luckily, I just presented my work the week before, so I could reuse most of the things from there. I put in three more slides because I have some more time to explain.

The talk went smooth, no complains here. Some interesting questions afterwards about radiation effects and protection, even I could learn something here.

Talk: PASTA Status Update

Subtitle: Current status of analog and digital parts
Slides: 21
Duration: ~25 minutes

Date: 10 June 2014
Occasion: 49. PANDA collaboration meeting, MVD session
Location: ASR, GSI Darmstadt, Germany
Audience: PANDA MVD group

I didn’t put too much effort in preparing this status update because most of the things I’ve already shown before somewhere. So I know what to say about the slides and can copy many of them from previous talks. Quite new is the section for the analog part, there I got some slides from my colleagues.

The talk itself went quite well. It was not the best talk in terms of preparation and more like a discussion, but this suits fine in this session.

Talk: The PANDA Strip ASIC (PASTA)

Subtitle: Current status of the development
for the MVD strip readout ASIC
Slides: 17
Duration: 18 minutes

Date: 3 April 2014
Occasion: IKP-1 seminar
Location: IKP-1 seminar room
Audience: Coworkers from the institute, mostly physicists but not all involved in PANDA and even less in electronics

I really get in a flow of presenting my work and each time I do it, it gets smoother. Afterwards, I end up in a lengthy discussion not particularly about my work but the MVD in a greater scheme.

Talk: The PANDA Strip ASIC (PASTA)

Subtitle: Current status of the development
for the MVD strip readout ASIC
Slides: 19
Duration: ~25 minutes

Date: 1 April 2014
Occasion: PANDA FEE/DAQ workshop
Location: Hotel Ebertor, Boppard, Germany
Audience: Physicists involved in the PANDA data acquisition and sensor readout

The workshop didn’t have many talks, so everyone had some time at hand to present their work. I had a 30 minutes slot which was double the time I had for the DPG talk (with basically the same content). So I had to include some more details in the slides to fill up the gap and during the talk I could spend more time in explaining things. In the end it was quite nice to talk this way, quite relaxed environment and fruitful for discussions.

Talk: The PANDA Strip ASIC (PASTA)

Subtitle: A Free-Running Readout ASIC for Silicon Strip Sensors in PANDA
Slides: 12
Duration: 12+3 Minutes

Date: 18 March 2014
Occasion: Annual DPG spring meeting
Location: University Frankfurt, HK21 – Instrumentation
Audience: (Mostly) German physicists in hadron physics, involved or interested in building detectors

The DPG meeting limits the talks to 12 minutes (+ 3 minutes discussion). In these 12 minutes you have to introduce the experiment and the topic you are working on. And then you should talk about the work, you are actually doing. Quite challenging, in my case I was a bit too much afraid of the time limit. I ended up in speaking too fast and had two minutes left at the end.

Luckily, there was some interest from the audience, so I could fill up the gained time with answering questions.

Talk: PASTA Digital Part

Subtitle: Design Review
Slides: 17
Duration: 2,5 Hours

Date: 17 February 2014
Occasion: Design mostly ready, needs crosschecking from colleagues
Location: INFN Torino, VLSI Lab
Audience: ASIC Developers at the INFN Torino, mostly digital development

The submission of an ASIC design is a hard deadline, after this the design as it is will be burned into silicon. Therefore, a review of what has been done is useful to get some more eyes on the project than just the developer. My first design review I did just before I left Torino.

We talked for 2.5 hours, mainly me explaining different functions and concepts in the ASIC. But also a lot of discussions of possible flaws in the logic. In the end everything was approved with some small remarks and suggestions in what to to.

Talk: Status of PASTA Development

Subtitle: Progress in Digital Part and Design Decisions
Slides: 17
Duration: 20 Minutes

Date: 10 December 2013
Occasion: PANDA collaboration meeting, MVD session
Location: GSI Darmstadt
Audience: PANDA MVD group

The quarterly status report in the MVD meeting. This time I included some general design decisions — especially a changed geometry. Since it was a talk for the MVD group, the atmosphere was quite relaxed. During the question and answer part I realized that I got more experience in this topic. I like that.

Talk: Time-based readout of silicon strip sensors

Subtitle: Concept and status of the PANDA Strip ASIC
Slides: 28 (+7 backup)
Duration: 45 Minutes

Date: 28 November 2013
Occasion: Real Time, Self-Triggered Front-End Electronics for Highly Segmented Detectors
Location: University of Torino / INFN Torino
Audience: Developers for front end electronics, mostly outside PANDA.

An international workshop for front end developers to share experiences in the development process. I was asked to present also my experiences and progress with the PASTA chip. Because the audience was mostly outside PANDA, I included also some general introduction of the experiment.

I didn’t have the chance to do a test talk in advance, therefore my talk was a bit longer than expected and on some points I was a bit floundering. But the scope of the workshop was quite relaxed and everyone had enough time, so at least I didn’t keep people away from their lunch.

Talk: MVD Strip ASIC (PASTA)

Subtitle: Status Update of the PANDA Strip ASIC
Slides: 18 (+1 backup)
Duration: 20 Minutes

Date: 10 September 2013
Occasion: 46. PANDA Collaboration Meeting, MVD session
Location: Ruhr University Bochum, Germany
Audience: PANDAs, most of them involved (or interested) in the MVD development.

I gave an update for the other MVD people on the current status of the MVD Strip ASIC development. I had two purposes in mind: first explain what I’m doing and secondly get people to the current status in total, to make the following discussion possible (some design parameters had to be discussed).
